Sustainability of Play to Earn games

Play-to-earn gaming involves commercializing the playing of games which allows the players to make real money. These games are aimed at rewarding gamers for their efforts and have a return on their investment with assets that have a market value, often NFTs. The assets can be sold to fellow players and when one is dedicated, they can make real wages from the games.

Video games were originally a form of entertainment, not a profit-making venture. Players pay money and in return engage in activities that are fun for them. The traditional view is becoming extinct as virtual games are being developed. These virtual games have an economic value as players are willing to pay more to play. These play-to-earn games allow the primary or secondary markets to grow where in-game assets can be sold or bought in real money.

How Exactly Does Play-to-Earn Gaming work?

Before we get to judge if the play-to-earn game will sustain in the long run, let’s briefly discuss the concept used.

Who sells assets in these games? Players sell the assets among themselves, the people they are paying to are not the game publishers. Selling will become an issue when everyone focuses on selling. If the aim of every player is only to make money, the balance of supply and demand collapses. If no one is there for entertainment, just there for money making, then the market is only for sellers. The only people they sell to are those who are also selling. Those who are buying are doing so to better sell the assets. This looks exactly like the pyramid scheme system. Money keeps flowing as long as there are people who are signing in, but the market will collapse when interest diminishes. The market can sustain itself only if the player base is selling the assets to the play-to-enjoy market.

This does not mean that people do not earn from playing games, but the argument is on the purely created play-to-earn games. Suppose some people want to spend on these games and buy the assets, maybe to store, then players are earning profits and the demand and supply law is satisfied.

Players push themselves into playing the games just to make something. You would wonder why then are people playing these games. The main reasons are that society is pushing people into the concept of becoming rich overnight through making money on the internet and a lot of promises for a bright future where NFTs will have real-world utility.

According to joystickgaming.io, play to enjoy games is the need of the hour, for play to earn to be successful and sustainable. More and more developers should start thinking on those lines, make games that people enjoy and also make money doing so.

Play-to-Earn is Sustainable

The play-to-earn gaming will sustain and be successful. Free-to-play games offer fun to players and give alternative avenues for financial compensation.  If the play-to-earn games are a success and transition to play-to-enjoy games then they can be sustainable as earning will just be a fraction of the system.
