How to Pause Dota 2 Match

There are instances where your teammates, or even you, get disconnected in a game for some reasons such as connectivity issues, electricity, or some personal matters. This can be worrisome for all his teammates as it can affect the outcome of the battle especially if it is a ranked match. Fortunately, there is an option in Dota 2 to halt the game and wait for your teammates to come back.

There is a ‘Pause’ feature in Dota 2 and you can press F9 to instantly pause and halt the game. Resuming the game has its own conditions though.

If the game has been paused, the team that has the disconnected player is the only one who can instantly resume the match. On the other hand, the enemy team who doesn’t have any disconnected player can opt not to wait for the disconnected player and can resume the game 30 seconds after the game has been paused.

Remember that each player has the ability to pause the match every 5 minutes so your teammates can take turns pausing if you have one player who has been disconnected. So even though the enemy has no intention of waiting, if 4 players on your side decided to wait then you’ll have a maximum of 2 minutes wait time for your teammate to come back.

In my own experience, people who are in high rank are more understanding when it comes to match pauses as they are more willing to wait for the disconnected player. However, there might be some players who will take advantage of this and will not wait for the enemy player to come back.
