Garen is a melee fighter / tank who has a highly aggressive playstyle and can takedown enemies while holding the frontlines in teamfights. He is a good choice for players who love to lane solo because of his tankiness and regeneration.
How to Play Garen
- Garen’s passive is a good tool in sustaining her health in the laning stages of the game
- Damage from minions won’t cancel his passive
- Use Decisive Strike to chase or escape from enemies
- Decisive Strike can also silence channeling abilities
- You can also use Decisive Strike on towers
- Courage’s passive makes Garen very tanky
- Activate Courage to reduce incoming damage and CC duration
- Use Judgment on teamfights
- You can also use Judgment to clear minion waves faster
- Use Demacian Justice to secure kills on low HP targets
- Garen is a great tank that can sustain heavy damage and bait out fights
Skills
Passive / Perseverance: If Garen has not been struck by damage or enemy abilities within 5 seconds, he regenerates 1.% missing health per second.
Skill 1 / Decisive Strike: Breaks free from all slows, becoming immune to them for 0.5 seconds and gaining 30% movement speed for 3 seconds. The next attack within 3 seconds is empowered to deal physical damage and silence the target for 1.5 seconds.
Skill 2 / Courage: Reduce damage taken for 2 seconds. For the first 1 second, damage is reduced by 60% and Garen gains 60% tenacity. Damage is reduced by 30% for the remaining duration.
Skill 3 / Judgment: Rapidly spin in a bladestorm for 3 seconds, dealing physical damage 8 times. Enemies hit by the bladestorm’s edge are critically struck for 125% damage. Re-cast to stop spinning.
Skill 4 / Demacian Justice: Calls forth the might of Demacia to execute an enemy champion, dealing true damage equal to 150 plus 20% of the target’s missing health. Nearby enemies also take 50% of this damage.

Runes
- Grasp of the Undying – Every 4 seconds in combat, your next attack on a champion will be enhanced based on your max health
- Brutal – Gain 7 AD and 2% armor penetration or 14 AP and 2% magic penetration
- Bone Plating – After taking damage from a champion, the next 3 champions abilities or attacks against you within 1.5 seconds deal 30-60 less damage. This has 45 seconds cooldown.
- Sweet Tooth – Increases Honeyfruit healing by 25%. Whenever you or a nearby ally eats a Honeyfruit, gain 20 gold.
