Diretide Beginner’s Guide – Dota 2

It is back! Diretide is officially back on October 29, 2020 and will end on December 22, 2020.

Diretide is a five-on-five special Dota 2 event wherein you will gather sweets to store in your Trove and at the same time please Roshan to avoid his wrath. Playing this mode will earn you Diretide points and every 100 points will earn you one of Roshan’s rewards.

How to Play Diretide

Format

Every hero is available in Diretide. It will be a Best-of-Five and the first to win 3 rounds wins the match. Each rounds will have 6 minutes. The map has only 2 lanes, the bottom and the top. You can buy equipment at the 3 shops in the map.

Rounds

Each round has different set of creeps.

• Skele-tons of Fun
• Floppin Zombies
• Monster of the Deep
• Spooky Ghosts (if necessary)
• Splodin Spiders (if necessary)

The goal is to battle the enemy team and collect more taffy in each round before the time runs out. The team who has the most number of taffy wins the round.

Every time you kill a creep, a Taffy will go directly to you. If not, it will fall into the ground and you need to pick it up.

If you kill an enemy, all the Taffy that they are currently holding will fall.

Likewise if you die, all your sweets will fall too. To avoid this, you can deliver them into your trove so it will add up to your overall score in the round. You can also give your entire stash of Taffy to your teammate so they can delivery it for you. (Ctrl + Alt + W then target your ally)

Take note that your Trove (Home Bucket) can be attacked too by enemies if they are able to destroy your outer turret (Taffy Wells). Your Taffy count will decrease if your Trove is attacked.

Roshan

You can also use glyph of fortification and do 1 buy back per round.

During the round, Roshan may come after you and your teammate, and you need to give him a certain amount of Taffy or else you will suffer his wrath.

Failing to feed him will result to Roshan killing you or your teammate and he will curse all your team. The larger your lead, the more candy Roshan will ask for your team.

There are also Scarecrows at the top and bottom of the map that will spawn in the 1st, 3rd, and 5th minute of each round that you can kill and it will give you neutral items or taffy. Don’t worry about its spawn, as there will be a notification telling you that “Scarecrow stashes are refreshed”.

The team who has the most number of Taffy in the round wins. First to win 3 rounds wins the match.

What will you get for playing Diretide?

Every match, you’ll earn Diretide points, and every 100 points will earn you rewards.

Diretide points you earn every match depends on your performance. I was able to get only 18 points on a losing effort after my first try and got 52 points after finally winning a match.

• +15 Diretide Points for your first Diretime Game mode win each day

I’ve been enjoying the game so far especially having to play it my friends. I can say its definitely worth it despite waiting for 5 years.
