If you think Pokemon has done it all, then you’re absolutely wrong. Yesterday, they dropped a bomb announcing that there will be a new Pokemon game, and this time, in the form of MOBA. The Pokemon Company announced yesterday a mobile game called Pokemon Unite, a 5v5 MOBA that offers real-time battles similar to LOL PC or Wild Rift but with different objectives. Imagine ganking your enemy team using Charizard, Blastoise, and Venusaur.
I think this is a really good move by the Pokemon Company and Tencent considering the rise in popularity of MOBA in mobile gaming (Just like what Riot did in Lol Wild Rift). From Dota 2, League of Legends, Mobile Legends, and Wild Rift, they are assured that there will be an audience that will be willing to try and play the game, especially knowing that the Pokemon franchise itself has a lot of following.
The game is still under development and has no definite timeline for release but here’s what you need to know so far. Take note that the game will be released on both Nintendo Switch and smartphones a free-to-start.
Gameplay
Main objective
The map is almost identical to any MOBA mobile game, but the main objective is different. Instead of destroying the base and the main base, you just need to catch ai-controlled Pokemon (being true to their famous tagline Gotta catch them all) and by doing so you’ll earn points. The team with the most points win.
But don’t worry, it’s not just about collecting Pokemon and earning points. There will also be the leveling system, skills, and the usual clashes/fights within the map.
Leveling
Just like any other MOBA game, the Pokemon that you choose for battle starts at level 1 will also level up as you defeat wild Pokemon on the map. The most exciting part is when you reach a certain level, your Pokemon will also evolve, so you won’t be stuck playing Charmander for the rest of the match.
Skills
This is probably the most interesting and unique part of the game as you won’t be getting static and fixed skills for every Pokemon. You can choose what type of skill you want to level for every S1, S2, S3. So every game is different from any other, depending on how you want to play your favorite Pokemon.
If you still don’t get it, here’s a simpler explanation.
For every skill slot, there will be two types of skill you can choose from depending on what type of gameplay you want in the match.
Evolution
They didn’t leave out the most thrilling part of the Pokemon franchise as your chosen Pokemon in the match will also evolve as you reach a certain level.
