If you want to go on a trip to memory lane then you might want to play the 8-bit third-generation home video game console by Nintendo which is the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). Playing the NES has never been so easy at present as you can now play it on your smartphone using an emulator. If you want to feel nostalgic again then you might want to give the classics a try.
For this tutorial, the thing that you will be needing is a working android device and the other one which is your Internet Connection.
Download an Emulator
For you to be able to play NES games on android, you will be needing an emulator. You can get one for free at coolrom.com. Just go to the Emulator dropdown > Android > Nintendo and choose between these three emulators.
- Nostalgia.NES
- John NES
- Retro 8
I’m currently using Nostalgia.NES and it can also be found on the Playstore. Download the emulator and install it on your phone.
What I love about this emulator is that you don’t have to locate the games on your device as the application itself will search your phone for ROMs that you’ve downloaded. You can also use cheats, have saved and load states, take screenshots, and play the game on either portrait or landscape mode.
Get NES Games
Now that you have your working emulator, you need to find the ROMs of your favorite NES games. There are a lot of websites that offer free downloads of these games. If you happen to found one, download it and extract it on your phone.
These are my favorite titles and I suggest you try one of these:
- Super Mario Bros
- The Legend of Zelda
- Contra
- Super Mario World
- Street Fighter III
Play NES
To play your game, Open your Nostalgia.NES and it will automatically find any NES ROMs that are available on your phone so you won’t have to manually locate them. Choose the game that you want to play and it will automatically start without any loading time. The best thing about it is that you can also play it on landscape mode besides the default portrait mode.
