“The challenge of making a game is sometimes like trying to build a house blindfolded. You can plan out where the walls will be, what the rooms will be like, how to make it stable and functional, but until you are actually in the space you don’t actually know.“

Creating a video game is hard. I’m an IT professional and create websites occasionally and I know how it feels like to code, let alone create games. In creating a game, you need to invest time(coding and formulating ideas), money, resources, and of course, skills.
Last week, I came across this thread on Twitter created by Gwen about games created by our very own fellow Filipino developers, and luckily this time, I had the time to look at some of them. In this article, I will list the games that I was initially impressed at and would definitely recommend everyone to play. Some of them are free and some of them are not and that’s okay. If you truly want to support fellow game developers then a few bucks won’t hurt. I’ve only listed 10 but if you want to see the full list you can visit the thread on Twitter.
List of Games Created by Filipino Developers:
Academia School Simulator
I’ve played a lot of simulator games involving homes, restaurants, hotels and this is the first time that I’ve encountered a school one. Academia: School Simulator is a simulation game designed for PC where you create and customize your school to your own liking and specialization, create your own faculty, witness your students grow, and a lot more. As of writing, the game is not finished and is still on early access. There will be bugs, but rest assured that the game is very stable.

Love Esquire
If you’re into turn-based RPG then Love Esquire is the game for you. We’re used to the protagonist having the same cliche story of saving the world against the forces of evil. But that isn’t the case for this game. Though you’re still the hero, your ultimate quest is really to get laid and find the girl of your dreams. And I think that’s enough reason for me to try this game, well of course I’m in for the gameplay too.

Bayani (Kanino Ka Kakampi?)
I’m a sucker for fighting games. From Marvel Vs Capcom, Bloody Roar, Tekken, name it and I’ve played it all. I’ve played the demo and it gave me the excitement and rush that those famous fighting games have given me. It also has a touch of home because the characters are based on our country’s rich history.
Download the demo on bayaniph.com or buy it on steam.
Mamayani
Who run the world? Girls!
If you’re into girl power then Mamayani is the game for you. It is an RPG game that is very educational and empowers women.
The game is still under development but you can try their demo here at mamayaniheroin.es.
Perya
We all have our perya stories, no matter if you’re rich or poor. Unfortunately, peryas are not as common today if you’ll compare them back in the day. But don’t you worry because if you want to relive the experience of having to visit the nostalgic peryaan, then you should try this game. The goal of this game is to help your Uncle’s perya regain its popularity.

Streetfood Tycoon
I’ve created a list of best cooking games and if I’m going to create one again then Streetfood Tycoon will be a shoo-in into my list. The goal is to own a food cart and sell a variety of street food and work your way towards becoming the most successful Tycoon.
It is available on the app store for free.
Make Tusok The Fishball
The only conyo game that I would try to be honest. I don’t know about you but the game is so addictive despite the gameplay being simple. The goal? It is in the title itself! You just have to make tusok (stab) all the fishball that is coming from random directions.
The game is also available on the app store.
Roxas Night Market
It was love at first sight for me with this game because of its Pixel Art style. I also love that the stalls are all based on all the food that we Filipinos love. Roxas Night Market is a street market simulator wherein you are tasked to create Davao’s own Roxas Avenue. You will unlock customers, create stalls, upgrade them from time to time and make this market the best one out there!
You can buy it here at jlawcordova.itch.io for whichever price you like.
Mathoria
This game is an educational Math RPG that is very suitable for children. You get to go on a classic adventure defeating monsters and at the same time learn Math. What more can you ask for? The game has been released way back in 2014 but it is never too late to try this amazing game.
You can get it here on steam for free.
re.cycle
The game is all about finding your missing grandfather and unraveling the truth behind the stories made by him when you’re a child. You basically roam around town carrying a vacuum and completing quests that include cleaning, picking up, and recycling trash all over your neighborhood. One thing that I also love about the game is the design as it reminds me of the Pokemon Games that you play on your classic Gameboy Advance.
You can get the game for free at hatdogames.itch.io

PS: I just want to clarify that the list I made here is based on a thread that I saw on Twitter. I know there are a lot of Games created by many great Filipino Game developers that aren’t on this list so If you have a game in mind that you can suggest then share it on our comment section too. Let us support all game developers out there!
