The Playstation Portable was introduced to us way back in 2005 and I was thrilled that I can play PS1 and some PS2 games on the go. It introduced us to games such as Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, God of War: Ghost of Sparta, Patapon 3, and a lot more. Now that we’re in the smartphone age, I guess it’s obvious that you can now enjoy those nostalgic games on your handheld devices the way you enjoy it on your classic handheld game consoles.
Here’s how you can play PSP games on your Android Device:
Get an Emulator
The first thing that you’re gonna need is a PSP emulator. I recommend using PPSSPP and you can download it on Playstore. There is a free version and also the paid version, which is the PPSSPP Gold. The premium PPSSPP is priced at $2USD. There are a lot of emulators out there but I guarantee that PPSSPP is the best. You can also check the reviews that it has on Playstore to see how amazing the emulator is.
Here are some of the notable features of the emulator:
- HD Resolution
- Customize touch controls and you can also use external controllers
- Save states anytime, anywhere
Get ISOs
The PPSSPP emulator doesn’t have games included in it. You’ll be needing your own PSP game and turn them into ISO or CSO files which will become the virtual copy of the game. There are a lot of websites that host a lot of PSP ISOs and it comes in big sizes so I suggest you free up some of your storage devices before getting it.
Here are my recommended games that you should play:
- Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
- Final Fantasy Type-0
- God of War: Ghost of Sparta
- Dragon Ball Z: Shin Budokai 2
- Call of Duty: Roads To Victory
- Mortal Kombat: Unchained
- Tekken 6
- Naruto Shippuden – Ultimate Ninja Heroes 3
- Patapon 3
- Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories
The best thing about this is it doesn’t require any fancy setup. After getting your game, open your PPSSPP, locate and choose the game that you want to play. That’s it! You can now play your favorite Playstation Portable game anytime, anywhere! You can check out our tutorials too for Gameboy Advance, PS1, and Nintendo DS.
Note: Not all games are supported by PPSSPP and the game speed is based on the specification of your handheld device.
